On February 6, 2023, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong of the Communist Party of Vietnam chaired a meeting to meet former senior leaders of the party and state on the occasion of the 93rd founding anniversary of the party and Cat New Year.
Former leaders include Nong Duc Manh, Nguyen Tan Dung and Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Tran Quoc Vuong, etc.
Previously on January 19, Mr. Trong organized a New Year celebration for the former leader at the headquarters of the Party Central Committee, invited Mr. Nong Duc Manh, Nguyen Sinh Hung, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Nguyen Xuan Phuc, who was forced to retire one day before.
At the conference on February 6, Mr. Trong said very excitedly because the conference gathered the largest number of former leaders ever, more than 300 people.
He said: “This is a very happy, exciting thing. Having the firm and steadfast support of former senior leaders with high qualifications and rich experience, the Politburo and the Secretariat are very excited, reassured, and increasingly believe in the cause and work our Party, State and People are doing. We always study and follow the examples of our predecessors. The former senior leaders, although retired, but with the available experience and enthusiasm, depending on each person’s conditions, continue to make contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party, building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.”
It is understandable that Mr. Trong said the above words to all the former party leaders, but it is also understandable that he spoke in particular to the former leaders present at this conference.
It is unclear why two former State Presidents Nguyen Minh Triet and Truong Tan Sang were not present. These two men are still very healthy and able to walk, Mr. Sang also visited Ha Tinh and Hung Yen in mid-January, then went around in Hanoi before returning to Long An. Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet went to watch football with journalist Nguyen Cong Khe, then returned to the resort of Khe and his wife to rest.
Triet and Sang were not invited, or were they invited but not came?
In fact, both cases are similar, that is, there is a disagreement between Mr. Trong and these two men, leading to Mr. Trong not inviting, or inviting the two men who do not want to go.
Personally, I think that Mr. Trong had not invited the two guys. We pay attention to Mr. Trong’s statement, he said he was glad that so many people came, he felt that he had a firm and steadfast support that made him feel very secure in the work in progress.
It seems that Mr. Trong has never shrunk like that, every word he spoke was full of respect for the former leaders present at the conference.
Concluding his speech at the conference, he said.
– The solid support of the leaders now, of all levels and branches at the central agencies is the veteran revolutionary comrades, reputable, and experienced comrades. Through comments and suggestions so that the Politburo and the Secretariat know what is good, it can be promoted, what is not good, learn from it, and what is bad must be corrected. Therefore, meetings like these are very important, to express gratitude and listen to the opinions of comrades who have a lot of experience, information and prestige. And not only meetings like this, but often we can have smaller meetings by topic, or meet privately to exchange experiences.
The General Secretary once again expressed his respect for former senior leaders. The Central Committee is willing to listen and absorb to further improve policies and guidelines as well as do better in organizing and directing the implementation, promptly correcting shortcomings and shortcomings, making the work better and better.
Twice he mentioned the solid foundation, at the beginning and the end of the meeting, especially he also wanted to have regular meetings in small groups by topic or meet privately to exchange experiences.
What made Mr. Trong become so earnest, respectful and respectful to the former leaders of the party and state present at such a conference? While just at the meeting to wish the New Year with the former party leaders half a month ago, he still strongly spoke with the phrases
– “Front and back support,” “Above and below are united,” and “All agree.”
It seems that Mr. Trong is in danger, he feels that some force is trying to bring him down. So he needed to find support and allies. The danger was really great, so he suggested that if necessary, he could meet privately to discuss.
