For a long time, public opinion in Vietnam has seen that Ho Chi Minh’s words about the people’s right such as “The people are masters, officials are servants,” are just cunning words and deception. Most people only wish that the Communist Party of Vietnam considers the people in the true meaning of the word “people” then they are very happy.
Yet, for some unknown reason, due to “confusion” due to old age or mental health problems, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said: “Vietnam’s mechanism, I think, is the most superior in the present era.”
This statement surprised public opinion, and in the ironic voice of Professor Ngo Bao Chau, “if not neurotic then crazy.”
Thanh Nien newspaper on October 14 ran the headline, “General Secretary: ‘Vietnam’s mechanism I think is the most superior in the present era’.”
The article said:
“On the morning of October 14, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Hanoi National Assembly delegates met with voters in districts… before the 6th session of the 15th National Assembly.”
When evaluating Vietnam’s management mechanism, the General Secretary said: “According to my research and understanding, this is the mechanism I consider to be the most superior in the current era.”
“The General Secretary also emphasized and affirmed that this is a dialectical relationship, it does not arise naturally, it must summarize many eras and many histories to come up with it.”
Immediately, public opinion on social networks reacted. The majority of comments said that General Secretary Trong spoke thoughtlessly, spoke for his own gain, and look down ordinary people, especially intellectuals.
On what basis does Mr. General affirm that Vietnam’s mechanism “Party leadership, State management, people ownership” is the most superior mechanism in the current era? Or the General Secretary mistakenly said, from reality, the mechanism that the General Secretary mentioned is actually: “The Party leads the State, manages the people and owns the country.”
Meanwhile, with that “superior” mechanism, healthcare and education are ruined and corruption is rampant. People are the owners of their country, so why do they just want to work in other countries and let the capitalists exploit them?
If Vietnam’s mechanism is the most superior, but why is Vietnam inferior to so many countries in Southeast Asia in all aspects? Inferior to both Laos and Cambodia, let alone compared to other civilized and developed countries in the world. Vietnamese people clearly understand that the regime they live in has many “problems,” including national corruption.
The Vietnamese Constitution clearly states: “The people are the masters, all state power belongs to the people.” However, in reality, the people do not know and have no right to choose the leader of the country, nor to participate in monitoring state power.
Meanwhile, the Communist Party of Vietnam – the only legal political party – considers itself the right to take the leading role of state and society, regardless of the Constitution and despite the policy “The people know, the people discuss, the people do, the people check.”
From Hanoi, Professor Nguyen Dinh Cong commented:
“The things written in the Constitution are only written for fun, but the party does as it wants. The party writes one thing, but what it does is another as it don’t follow the Constitution. How can it be that (the people) are the masters? The people don’t know anything?”
“The slogan ‘People know, people discuss, people do, people check” just for fun, they proposed it to prove there is democracy, but they don’t actually implement it.”
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the Communist Party of Vietnam should not forget that the word “cunning speaker” in Vietnamese refers to a person who speaks cleverly, so cleverly that the listener finds it difficult to recognize that it is a lie. “Cunning people” will try to make the listener believe them. People who are “cunning” are often insincere and often find ways to hide their true thoughts, because they are evil.
